In many countries around the world, science and technology in the field of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) are attracting quite a lot of attentions and investments. Significant progresses have gained in the training, scientific research, machinery manufacture and logistics for disaster preparedness, tracking and monitoring, improving resilience, responses to disasters and disaster recovery. Such achievement greatly contributed to reduced disaster damages and losses in the context of and more and more extreme and complicated disasters and climate change globally.
Vietnam is one of the five countries most affected by natural disasters and climate change; At the same time, the increasing water use activities of upstream countries of the Red River and Mekong River, socio-economic activities of the country, fast growing economy and its 14th largest population are increasing disaster related damages and losses. In this context, disaster prevention and control activities have to be ever promoted, especially the promotion of science and technology for natural disaster prevention, response and recovery of disaster consequences in a timely and accurate manner; ensuring a safer society before natural disasters.
In 2020, Vietnam will take over the annually rotating ASEAN Chairmanship. Through discussions and suggestions of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster management (AHA Centre), among the series of events to be held in the forthcoming time, ASEAN countries are quite interested in exchanging and sharing scientific and technological applications in the field of DRM
For many years, the Communists Party of Vietnam and the GoV have always paid great attention and substantially invested in disaster management resources. However, the access to advanced and modern disaster management equipment and devices is still limited by both professional and technical leaders and staff at national and local levels, social organizations, enterprises, scientists, students and communities.
In order to meet the above requirements, with the aim of creating a forum for national and international leaders, managers, researchers, institutions, academia, scientific and technological organizations; disaster management agencies at all levels and relevant agencies and enterprises to exchange experience and search for markets, to introduce most advanced science and technology products in the field of DRM, MARD organizes the “International Science and Technology Conference and Exhibition on Disaster Risk Management” under the framework of the National week of Natural disaster prevention and control during 15-22 May 2020 in Hanoi.
